Besides wedding & portrait work, I have a ton of personal photos that I am just itching to share with the world. So I’m going to start posting new & old personal work at least once a week. I’m a huge advocate of shooting personal work & not just for clients all the time. Helps photographers find their voice! Hope you enjoy :)

Hi everyone! Lots of fun & exciting things happening over here at Alex Bee Photo. Let’s get to the news!
1) THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION PACKAGE CONTEST
The winners of the contest are Tressie & Sterg! Congratulations on winning an engagement session package valued at $600. Lots of fun goodies in there like a custom guestbook & save the dates! Second place winners, Alyssa & Griffin, will receive a complimentary engagement session worth $250. Thank you all for your support! I was overwhelmed by the amount of entries & votes I received! Over 400 people voted.
2) BRIDAL SHOW PHOTOS ON ASHLEY’S BRIDE GUIDE
Ashley of Ashley’s Bride Guide invited me to attend Weddings the Bridal Show in Nashville to take photos. It was really fun checking out all the vendors & meeting people! See the posts with the photos HERE & another post HERE.

3) WOOOHOO I’M IN THE INCEPTION EXTRAS!!
I’m honored to have a piece of artwork in Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious, a documentary in the extras of the blu-ray Inception set by Roko Belic. I’m sure you are wondering HOW in the heck this little photographer from Knoxville Tennessee had that opportunity! Well, I am a member of the HitRecord community, which is basically a collaborative production company full of artists headed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It’s where I get to express by artsy fartsy side simply for artsy fartsy sake. Watch for my full name, Alex Blackwelder, in the credits! Here’s a preview on Youtube so you can get the gist!
4) VOTE FOR APRIL & CHRISTIAN!
One of my 2011 couples, April & Christian, have the chance to win a $20,000 for their wedding! Please, please go vote on Her Nashville! They rock, & their engagement story is super cute. Watch their video then GO VOTE! Voting ends February 14th! Thank you.
A few weeks back I announced an awesome engagement session package giveaway. I asked couples to submit a unique idea for their engagement sessions. Winners will receive an engagement session & lots of other goodies worth $600! I’ve been amazed at some of the awesome entries I got & it was really hard to pick these three finalists! I chose the finalists based on a few guidelines. I really wanted a UNIQUE idea I haven’t seen before, but I also wanted to be able to envision super awesome photos from our session. Naturally I went with ideas that are really interactive. Overall I was very excited about the quality of entries I received!

Here are the finalists & their concepts!
Tressie & Sterg:
Our concept is entitled “Love in the Library”. One of our favorite outings as a couple is browsing through used bookstores (we always end up at McKay’s). Sterg, a professor at UT, and I, a high school English teacher, just can’t seem to get our hands on enough books. He loves obscure joke books and detective novels. I tend to spend time with memoirs and young adult novels to add to my classroom library. It sometimes turns into a competition to see who can find the most interesting books–we tend to separate, search the shelves, then play an impromptu game of hide-and-seek before comparing titles near the checkout line.
I would love to do a photo shoot that captures the mystery and romance (no pun intended) that bookstores and libraries offer. Never taking ourselves too seriously, I can envision a playful, hide-and-seek session: peering through bookcases, nestled together with an open book, or even stealing a kiss in the romance section.
Heather & Lucas:
Lucas and I would like to do a photo shoot of “Engagement session a la ZORB”. If we won the contest we would go to Gatlinburg, TN and ZORB!!! I have been Zorbing once before in New Zealand. Zorbing is a giant inflatable globe which you get inside of a roll down a hill. The hill has twists, turns, zigs- zags that will have you sliding backwards, sideways, upsidedown and insideout. I think it would be awesome to Zorb ZYDRO which is a type of zorbing with water.
Lucas has never Zorbed before, and I am dying to take him! Ever since I came home I have been asking Lucas to go Zorbing with me. I hope to win so I can surprise Lucas with this fun date! He would be so ecstatic!
I think the pictures would be awesome and extremely different! Click here to see more about zorbing.
Alyssa & Griffin:
I’m Alyssa and I am 21. My fiance’s name is Griffin Cave. Well Griffin and I had our first date on the Caney Fork River and plan on getting married there. We recently stayed there for a weekend and the place is beautiful it is almost antique and industrial while completely surrounded by nature. I think we would probably start out doing some pretty cheesy common stuff like staring longingly into each others eyes and stuff like that but I would like the rest of the photos to reflect our personalities more accurately. Griffin really loves to fish and sometimes it annoys me a little, mostly because I don’t understand why he has to have a room full of stuff to catch a bass… I think it might be funny if we did something with him fishing and me just being bored and possibly pictures of me trying to fish with him but failing..because I do that often.
Then maybe we could transition to a picnic and this is where the fun REALLY starts! Seeing as my fiance and I are both fa’s (fatasses) this will be really characteristic of what we do, find excuses to eat. I’m thinking this will be cute at first and then turn into a huge FOOD FIGHT! We’d start off with something typical, like sandwiches, then get to really fun and messy stuff like cupcakes, pies, etc. I think it would be pretty awesome and has potential to be super cute and playful. And who hasn’t wanted to be in a food fight?!
